Tara Swift and Heroic

Arya-Ture-Vira-Tara, Tara Swift and Heroic, (Rab tu dpa’ba’i Sgrol ma)

Homage to Tara, swift and courageous,
Whose gaze is as quick as a flash of lightning,
Who, on a tear from the face of the Protector of the Three Worlds [Chenrezig],
Arose from a billionfold lotus pistil.

Out of emptiness appears a darmodaya. In its center is OM on a yellow lotus and moon. It transforms into Tara the Heroine, red and radiating masses of fire. She has one face and eight arms. The first pair of hands, joined at the crown, hold a vajra and bell. The second pair hold a bow and arrow. The third hold a wheel and conch and the fourth hold a sword and noose. She appears peaceful and sits in the cross-legged position. She is adorned with silks and jewel ornaments and has a backrest of moonlight.

Her specific function is to control, and there is a ceremony in which a practitioner invokes this Tara to turn back the power of others. In other words, if others are trying to exert negative power over us, we can reverse that power or turn it away by requesting Tara’s help.
